the sex workers art show (www.sexworkersartshow.com)
back for the 3rd year in a row, this cabaret-style night of music, spoken word, burlesque, drag, sexy circus tricks, video, badass poetry, and visual art created by people who work in the sex industry smashes traditional stereotypes and moves beyond 'positive' and 'negative' into a fuller portrayal of the complicated ways sex workers experience their jobs and lives.
this year's lineup includes award-winning writer and MS Magazine Woman of the Year Nomy Lamm; circus sideshow Diva of Danger Miss Satanica; San Francisco artist and performer Isis Rodriguez; Boston performance artist and more myth than man Ben McCoy; Shawna Kenney, author of I Was a Teenage Dominatrix; storywriter partystarter pantydancer Chelsea Starr; hip-hop mastermind Tre Vasquez; playwright Naima Lowe; performer and self-defense superhero Ronica; and tour founder and director Annie Oakley. Visual artists include Xeric Award-winning graphic artist Laurenn McCubbin; NYC photographer Erin Siegal, and filmmaker and painter James Diamond.

08/07speaking of Nomy Lamm --- she'll be performing with her band Tricrotic at the (not so) little queer music festival at IDA in September. So will Marisa Anderson (of the Dolly Ranchers), Kiss Kiss Kill, probably the Scream Club, and a pile of other people you can find out more about at www.planetida.com.
